How the Kindle Approved Personal Document Email List Works
Your Kindle address only accepts documents from senders you have approved in advance. Amazon calls this the Approved Personal Document Email List. If you email a file from an address that is not on it, the document is not delivered and Amazon reports error E014, Unapproved Sender Email Address. Adding a sender takes a minute.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Open Manage Your Content and Devices
Sign in to Amazon in a browser and open Manage Your Content and Devices from your account menu.
Step 2: Go to Preferences, then Personal Document Settings
Open the Preferences tab and expand Personal Document Settings. This section shows your Send to Kindle addresses and the approved list.
Step 3: Add the sender's email address
Under Approved Personal Document Email List, choose the option to add a new approved email address, type the full address you will be sending from, and save it.
Step 4: Send the document again
Documents rejected before the sender was approved are not delivered afterwards on their own. Send the email again from the approved address.
Pro Tips
- 💡 Amazon allows up to 15 approved sender addresses
- 💡 Approve the address the email is actually sent from, which is not always the one you see as the display name
- 💡 Remove senders you no longer use to stay under the limit
- 💡 The list is per Amazon account, so it covers all your Kindles and Kindle apps
Frequently Asked Questions
How many senders can I approve?
Amazon lets you send to your Send to Kindle address from up to 15 approved email addresses.
What happens if an unapproved address sends me a document?
It is not delivered. Amazon reports this as error E014, Unapproved Sender Email Address, and the fix is to add that address to your approved list and send the document again.
Why does forwarding newsletters to my Kindle run into this limit?
Each newsletter is sent from its own address, and each one would need its own place on a list that holds 15. A reader with a few dozen subscriptions cannot approve them all.
How does InboxToKindle get around the 15-sender limit?
If the documents you are sending are email newsletters, InboxToKindle removes most of this work: you approve one sender once, and every newsletter you subscribe to is converted to EPUB, stripped of tracking pixels and delivered for you. The free plan includes 3 deliveries a month and Pro is unlimited for $10 a month.
