Send to Kindle Email Not Working: A Checklist That Fixes Most Cases
You emailed a document to your Kindle address and nothing showed up. In most cases the cause is one of a handful of things, and Amazon usually tells you which one in a reply email. Work through the steps below in order. They cover the common causes, from the sender not being approved to the file being a type or size that Send to Kindle does not accept.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Look for a reply email from Amazon
When Send to Kindle rejects a document, Amazon normally replies to the address you sent from, with an error code such as E014 or E999. Check that inbox and its spam folder first. The code tells you which of the steps below applies.
Step 2: Check that the sender is on your approved list
Amazon only accepts documents from addresses on your Approved Personal Document Email List. On Amazon, open Manage Your Content and Devices, go to Preferences, then Personal Document Settings, and confirm that the exact address you are sending from is listed. An unapproved sender is reported as error E014.
Step 3: Confirm you are sending to the right Kindle address
Each Kindle and Kindle app has its own Send to Kindle address ending in @kindle.com. It is shown on the same Personal Document Settings page. It is not the email you use to log in to Amazon, and a single wrong character means the email goes nowhere.
Step 4: Check the file type, size and number of attachments
Send to Kindle accepts EPUB, PDF, HTML, RTF, plain text and common image files. Amazon's limits are up to 25 attachments in one email and a total size of 50 MB or less. Password-protected files are rejected. If your file is larger or a different type, convert or split it and send it again.
Step 5: Sync the Kindle and give it a few minutes
Documents arrive over Wi-Fi. Make sure the Kindle is connected, then use the Sync option in its settings menu. Delivery is usually quick but can take several minutes.
Step 6: If Amazon reports an internal error, send it again later
Error E999 means the Send to Kindle service itself had a problem. Amazon's advice is to retry later. If it keeps failing, try the same file through Send to Kindle for Web, which accepts files up to 200 MB.
